Registry Information For System Owners

If you are responsible for the functional management of an IT system at the University, how you will interact with the Registry depends on what sort data you manage.

Systems of Record

If you maintain authoritative records about a population affiliated with the University, you are what we call a “System of Record”. These populations could include students, employees, visitors, alumni, conference attendees, etc. We are interested in working with you to help create electronic identities for your populations, and to establish appropriate use policies for the data we generate.

Because of the complexity involved, we recommend that you contact us for further information if we have not already been in touch. You may also wish to review the following links for additional information:

Downstream Systems

If you are responsible for a system that consumes identity data, you are what we call a “Downstream System”. This includes authenticating someone via their NetID, authorizing someone based on their role (“student”, “fac/staff”, “guest”, etc), generating records for someone based on extracts from systems such as the PDB, or verifying someone via their RUconnection ID card.

The changes we are planning will result in better defined and more sophisticated role information being made available to your application, and enhanced assurance of the NetIDs used to authenticate. You may wish to review the following links for additional information:
